“39M for Mid”: NBA Fans Pass Verdict on Brandin Podziemski Contract Extension Rumors

Mar 17, 2026, 4:08 AM CUT

Brandin Podziemski's future with the Warriors is already being questioned by fans. A potential $39 million contract extension has sparked a heated debate.

The Golden State Warriors are approaching what could be another tricky contract decision, with Podziemski set to become eligible for a rookie-scale extension this offseason.

As Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Standard pointed out, there’s already a benchmark in place. "I don’t know if Podziemski’s worth much more than the three-year, $39-million deal that Moody got in October 2024. But I’m positive that he will want more," he wrote.

At the same time, Tim Kawakami added that the Golden State Warriors are unlikely to go down the same aggressive route they once did with Jordan Poole.

In fact, he made it clear, "I also am relatively sure that the Warriors won’t want to pay Podziemski anything near the $123 million they paid Jordan Poole in October 2022."

If nothing gets done, Brandin Podziemski would then head into restricted free agency in 2027. It's also worth noting that all of this extension talk remains just speculation for now, even as Podziemski puts up solid underlying numbers.

He averaged 18.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 4.6 assists. His scoring efficiency sits more in the middle tier with a modest TS%.

Brandin Podziemski Faces Fan Backlash Over Potential Payday

“$39 million for mid,” one critic bluntly wrote. Another comment went even further: “$39 million to be unreliable, a bad passer, and an inconsistent scorer?”

A different user piled on, saying, “$39M for a guy who averages 9 points and thinks he's Steph Curry’s heir apparent? The Warriors front office has lost their d*** minds.”

For now, Podziemski remains under contract through the 2026–27 season at around $5.7 million next year. Yet, fans aren't in favour of bumping that number up too much.

“That’s insane, stop overpaying for scrubs,” another said, reflecting the growing frustration among a section of the fanbase. Then again, it's not surprising to see such reactions.

Financially, things are already tight for Golden State, with the team projecting about $234 million in commitments for the 2025–26 season.

“Seriously?! That’s why NBA level decrease: a lot of average player earn so much money,” another user added, tying the criticism to a broader complaint about the league.

A more realistic range for a potential deal could land somewhere between $45 million and $60 million over four years, which breaks down to roughly $15 million to $20 million annually.

So do you think Brandin Podziemski should get an extension beyond $39M, or are fans right to question his value?
