Three-time All-Star and former Los Angeles Clippers player Ben Simmons is ramping up an official league comeback attempt for the 2026-27 NBA season, per reports.

After sitting out the 2025-26 season entirely by choice, the 30-year-old point forward says he feels better than he has in years. And according to Andscape’s Marc J. Spears, several NBA teams have expressed interest in the veteran point forward.

Simmons is participating as a full, unrestricted participant in a player-led Australian men’s national team mini-camp in Melbourne.

Per Spears’ reports, he’s paying his own way out-of-pocket to showcase his restored health and athleticism.

To ease the financial risk for interested front offices, Simmons’ camp has also made it known that he is fully open to signing a veteran’s minimum contract.

It’s been a long road for Simmons to this point. For years, Simmons’ story has been tied to back injuries, nerve issues and a long list of stops and starts.

He had season-ending back surgery in March 2024 to address a nerve impingement. After being bought out by the Brooklyn Nets in February 2025, he joined the Clippers for the rest of that season.

In 2024-25, he played 18 games for the Clippers and averaged 2.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists, before sitting out the entire 2025-26 campaign by choice.

Rather than chase a roster spot for 2025-26, Simmons reportedly turned down a one-year minimum offer from the New York Knicks and walked away from the game entirely to let his body heal.

However, he didn’t disappear. He kept busy as a co-owner and angler for the South Florida Sails Angling Club. Now, Simmons is hoping to make a comeback to the NBA once again, and his chances don’t look too bad.

Where Simmons could land for the upcoming season

The Philadelphia 76ers is still the name that comes up first in discussions about Simmons’ next landing spot. It is where Simmons was drafted as a first-round pick back in 2016.

Simmons averaged 15.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.7 assists, and 1.7 steals per game, across four seasons in Philly. He also became a Rookie of the Year award winner, recorded three All-Star selections, an All-NBA nod, and two All-Defensive teams from Philadelphia.

The Sixers recently signed LeBron James to a two-year deal this offseason, pairing him with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and newly acquired Jaylen Brown.

A player like Simmons, who can defend multiple positions, rebound, and run offense in short bursts off the bench, would fit neatly into that group.

Miami is the other team that keeps getting mentioned, as Simmons has talked about it openly.

In a Men’s Health interview, he admitted he might go back to Philly. But he also considered Miami as a potential option as he likes the Heat’s coach, their organization, and their culture.

Miami recently added Giannis Antetokounmpo from Milwaukee in the offseason. While spacing would be tight, a Heat team built around Giannis and Bam Adebayo could use the playmaking and defensive versatility Simmons offers.
