Bomani Jones Weighs In on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s Place in NBA History

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is breaking records and winning championships, yet the debate about his all-time greatness is just getting started.

The Thunder star maintains his impressive performance record, but one major question continues to exist. Do people consider him a part of basketball royalty? In the recent episode of ‘The Foxworth Show,’ Bomani Jones discussed Gilgeous Alexander’s position.

Bomani Jones said, “If Shai Gilgeous Alexander somehow gets 2-3 rings, we’re going to talk about him like we talked about Joe Montana…..There has never been a single, solitary moment that I watched him and thought I was watching one of the greatest players of all-time.”

Montana's legacy rests on a flawless 4-0 Super Bowl record, three Super Bowl MVPs, and zero interceptions across those games. Jones believes SGA must embrace a winning narrative to silence critics.

The individual case for SGA proves impossible to dismiss at this point. Leading the 2025–26 season at 31.1 PPG on 55.3% shooting, he has broken Wilt Chamberlain's record with 127+ consecutive 20-point games.

The base exists for success when you add a 2024–25 MVP award, Finals MVP award, and championship victory to the existing foundation.

If he continues on the same path, the conversation may no longer be about whether he belongs among the greats, but how he ranks.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Stays Focused, As Luka Doncic's Injury Clouds the Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers step into the playoffs with uncertainty about Luka Doncic’s return. Even though the noise around his injury, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder stay focused on the biggest picture.

Doncic has been sidelined since April with a Grade 2 hamstring strain. He will miss the start of the Thunder series, with the Lakers examining him on a regular basis.

While his absence is very visible, Gilgeous-Alexander made it clear that the Thunder are not preparing for just one player.

He stated, “Playing identity, they’re playing really well right now, regardless of who’s out there.”

Gilgeous-Alexander continues to lead a confident Thunder team that is not going to take anything for granted. With no confirmation of Doncic’s return and the playoffs getting intense, the series turns more exciting for the fans.
