Chris Paul’s final season with the Los Angeles Clippers was expected to be a special return for one of the best players in team history. Instead, it ended with frustration, disappointment, and a feeling of disrespect that Paul still remembers. 

On the Build or Break podcast, hosted by Daniel Lubetzky, Paul spoke about his final time with the Clippers. The 12-time All-Star said the situation affected both him and his family. He also explained why he still finds the experience difficult to forget. 

“What's interesting about that whole situation is, it's probably one of the most disrespectful things that I've endured,” Paul said.

In the same podcast on YouTube, Paul made it clear that his frustration was not only about leaving the Clippers after returning to Los Angeles.

His family closely followed the team and knew about its daily activities. This made everything more personal for Paul after years with the Clippers. 

“I've been through a lot of wild stuff in my career, and having older kids and a wife who's very tapped in, and they know the daily goings-on as far as that team and that organization,” Paul said. 

Paul admitted that he was upset by what happened. 

“Obviously, I was upset, but my family, my people, everybody… I think just because of the investment we made in the team for as long as we have, and to see the way stuff was handled,” Paul said. 

Paul’s comments showed that the situation hurt him in many ways. He did not like how the Clippers handled his exit. He also felt hurt after years of support from him and his family. 

For Paul, this was not only about basketball. It was also about how the team treated someone who gave so much to the franchise. 

Chris Paul complicated final Clippers chapter 

The comments made by Chris Paul also explain what happened during the difficult final part of his return to the Clippers in the 2025-26 season. According to Nico Martinez of Fadeaway World, his return soon became difficult as Paul had problems with coaches and teammates.

Paul had already spent seven seasons with the Clippers earlier in his career. He helped turn the struggling team into a strong Western Conference team. He played alongside Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan during that time.

During his first time with the Clippers, Paul averaged 18.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 9.6 assists, and 2.1 steals per game. He also shot 47.3% from the field and 37.7% from three-point range.

The same Fadeaway World article also reported that he questioned coaches, tried to change defensive plans, and pushed teammates when he felt they were not meeting the team’s standards.

The situation later became worse. The Clippers eventually cut Paul from the team. A few months later, Paul announced his retirement. His latest comments now give more insight into why the ending hurt him so much.

Paul played an important role in making the Clippers a serious NBA team. Because of that, his description of the treatment as one of the most disrespectful experiences of his career makes his final exit even more important.
