DeMarcus Cousins Explains Why It’ll Be a ‘Sad Day’ When Lebron James Retires

With the Los Angeles Lakers’ playoff exit, all eyes would be on LeBron James and his next move. And NBA Star DeMarcus Cousins recently expressed what he’d feel if that's hanging up his boots.

The Lakers’ latest championship dream ended with a 115-110 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 4 of the semifinal series. And Cousins’ remark highlighted that he might not be fully braced to “potentially” watch Bron playing his last game.

“I think he’s got another 10 years left,” he stated in a recent interview with Senior NBA writer Damien Peters. “For a guy whom I grew up watching as a kid, I was a part of his camps as a young kid, it will be a sad day… I’m a guy who appreciates his legacy and what he’s done for the game and young athletes…”

Starting from 2003, the 41-year-old’s career spanned over 23 seasons. The NBA icon has created “a blueprint on how to carry yourself on and off the court, how to take care of your body and be the ultimate professional.”

In Luka Doncic’s absence, Bron led the team in the first-round playoff series against the Houston Rockets. He averaged 23.2 points, 7.3 assists, and 6.7 rebounds across 10 games, until the fallout in Game 4.

So, whenever the star “decides to make it his last”, Cousins hoped, “(Bron) gets the flowers he deserves.” But ultimately, LeBron James’ retirement discussion remains uncertain.

Lebron James Talks About His Future

In the last game, Bron played 40 minutes, posting 24 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 assists. Even after Austin Reaves’ 27-pointer, a win couldn’t be secured. And postgame, the star opened up on his next move.

“I don’t know (what’s next). Obviously, it’s still fresh from losing,” James said. “I don’t know. I don’t know what the future holds for me, obviously, as it stands right now, tonight.”

Coach JJ Redick also weighed in, stating that he “(hasn’t) even thought about that (Bron’s retirement).” But he concluded that the team will “deal with the offseason in the offseason, which is in the next two months.”

Moving forward, what do you think is awaiting LeBron James this offseason? Let us know in the comments.
