While Ja Morant is yet to play a game for his new team, the Portland Trail Blazers, that does not stop him from creating headlines during the offseason.

On the occasion of his birthday, Ja gifted himself a $250,000 grill. He was all smiles, as his jeweler shared the video and described it as a "Chandelier" set featuring GIA-certified diamonds.

While it is quite a lavish birthday gift, it comes at one of the most symbolic moments in the former No. 2 overall pick's career.

The $250,000 birthday present can be looked at as a fresh start, especially from where Morant is coming from. Over the last three years, the former Memphis Grizzlies star has endured nearly every setback imaginable.

Morant suffered repeated injuries, high-profile suspensions kept him off the court, and constant speculation surrounded his future as questions grew about his long-term place within the organization.

In March 2026, Morant's disappointing season came to an early end after he suffered a severe sprain to the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow. This injury required him to receive platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment.

Morant played just 79 games in the regular season over the past three years, and if we add that to reports of internal friction with members of the Grizzlies' front office and coaching staff, Morant's time with the Grizzlies was always coming to an end soon.

The two-time All-Star now has the biggest opportunity to start fresh, and his latest grill acts as a symbolic piece for that.

However, fans on social media were not too impressed with Ja Morant's birthday present.

Birthdays symbolize new beginnings, and with Morant now healthy and in a new organization, the timing could not be better. But fans did not view it this way, perceiving Ja's smile, reportedly worth $250,000, as simply a needless luxury purchase.

"I’m a JA fan. But it looks like he has glass in his mouth." One user stated that while they are a fan of Morant, they honestly are not in favor of the grill.

"Damn Ja need to be focused on his jumper man." Another user wants Morant to get to the gym and start training for the new season with his new team, rather than doing any outside activities

“That grill is absolutely ridiculous,” a fan wrote. While another added, “Then we have players complaining they don’t get enough money.”

"Doesn't matter how I feel about it, he's allowed to do whatever he wants with his money." Another user chimed in.

While fans have heavily criticized Morant's latest piece of jewellery, money definitely won't be a problem for the newest Portland star.

Morant is set to make more than $42.1 million from his NBA salary alone next season. So, a $250K investment may look small, but the majority of fans still called out the 27-year-old for wasting his money.
