FOX Sports’ Aaron Torres Calls LeBron James ‘Narcissist’ Over Lakers Frustration

Since the Los Angeles Lakers’ offseason has kicked in, it has been overwhelmed by questions around LeBron James’ future with the franchise.

Earlier this week, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith said that the NBA star turned the Lakers off by manipulating the organization. Shortly after, on Saturday, Fox Sports’ analyst Aaron Torres slammed the four-time NBA champion for putting his ego over the team.

"This guy is so narcissistic, so ego-driven, but here is the worst part: we know that it is not about a game ball," Torres said on Fox Sports Radio.

"We know that after a season that does not result in a championship, it is never LeBron's fault, it is always everybody else's fault … and in this case, blame Rob Pelinka," Torres added.

James dissatisfaction first came to the forefront when ESPN’s Dave McMenamin claimed that James felt that Rob Pelinka and the Lakers took him for granted after the game ball incident in March, prompting outcry from the NBA world.

According to McMenamin, James was not happy after Pelinka gave the game ball to JJ Redick after a win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in March. Redick had his 100th win as a coach.

According to the ESPN reporter, LeBron James, who has become the NBA’s all-time winningest player (regular season and playoffs combined) by securing his 1,229th career victory, saw it as “another example of the Lakers taking him for granted.”

However, according to Torres, while the Lakers had gone above and beyond to keep James happy, James had acted selfishly.

"Rob Pelinka traded for Luka Doncic in his prime," Torres added. "He drafted your son; he has done everything you wanted.

"But part of the reason that Rob Pelinka couldn't build a better team around you is that again, you opted into a deal that pays you 50 million dollars a year."

LeBron James made $52,627,153 in on-court salary during the 2025-2026 NBA season. However, if he doesn't return, his salary might be the only area of disagreement between the Lakers and his representatives.

NBA legend urges LeBron James to retire

LeBron James’ future hasn’t looked this uncertain in a very long time. This is also the first time that the NBA superstar doesn’t hold the same power over a franchise while he decides his future.

Overall, the 23-year veteran superstar is looking like a normal star player in the NBA.

For many LeBron fans, how this offseason is turning out to be, and the apparent treatment from the Lakers, is painful to watch.

But the disrespect has extended so much that even once his fiercest opponent and critic, Paul Pierce, said that it was unfair to LeBron. Pierce is now urging James to walk away from the game.

"Yeah, I think he should (retire)," Pierce said. "For the simple fact that at his age, he still receives the criticism that he still does. The greats weren’t getting this criticism late.

"Nobody was criticizing Kobe when he wasn’t going to the playoffs in his last year. They were just enjoying his moments. Like, the same with Jordan in Washington."

At age 41, no player has been this great. Michael Jordan was 39 years old when he was playing for the Washington Wizards without any pressure to make the playoffs.

Kobe Bryant missed the playoffs in the last four years of his career when he retired at 37. Despite that, both Jordan and Bryant were highly revered in the NBA, as they should have been. James appears to face a different standard than his peers.
