The Miami Heat's Bam Adebayo is one of the toughest players in the league. But the Heat's center recently revealed one of the most terrifying moments of his life when he faced his girlfriend A'ja Wilson's dad with a big question.
Adebayo and the WNBA star got close during the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. By headlining the 2024 Paris Olympics and beyond, they have become basketball's power couple. When Adebayo wanted to take the next step in the relationship, he had to first ask Wilson's dad, Roscoe.
"That was the most terrifying question I had to ask them. I was like, 'Man, would it be cool if I, like, married your daughter?'" Adebayo said in an episode of ESPN's Life in the W. "I ain't gonna lie. I went to the bathroom. I had to cry a little bit."

Roscoe gave him his blessings. Wilson also confirmed that she would "love to be his wife." She is just waiting for the day the Heat star surprises her with a proposal.
It was an emotional moment for the Heat star because he is a part of Wilson's family.
"Roscoe is the dad I always wanted. If I could have picked a dad, it would be 100 percent Roscoe," Adebayo said in an episode of ESPN's Life in the W.
Bam spent his childhood in New Jersey, but he and his mom moved to North Carolina. His dad, John Adebayo, stayed in New Jersey. He spent the next part of his life without the constant presence of his father.
While Bam found a father figure in Roscoe, taking the next step in his relationship required a push of a different kind. That’s where Wilson took charge to ensure their story got off the ground.
A'ja Wilson reveals she made the first move
In the same episode, Wilson hilariously revealed that Adebayo has yet to ask her to be his girlfriend. According to the four-time MVP, the Heat star was so reserved that she had to initiate taking things to the next level.
"I was always the one who initiated, because if I didn't, we would still be in the talking stage," Wilson said in the episode posted by ESPN on X.
Wilson also said, "I love you first," and Adebayo added that it was a mutual understanding that they felt the same for each other. The couple has become comfortable in sharing their relationship with the world. Soon, they might take their relationship to the next level.
