Here’s What Michael Jordan Told Bam Adebayo After Historic 83-Point Night

Mar 15, 2026, 1:40 AM CUT

Bam Adebayo lit up the Washington Wizards for a staggering 83 points, leading the Heat to a 150–129 win. The performance shattered a two-decade-old Kobe Bryant record and even earned him a personal appreciation from Michael Jordan.

While having a conversation on NBA Countdown, Adebayo revealed the Chicago Bulls star's appreciative remark for him. He disclosed that the worldwide NBA icon lauded his performance with a single word.

Adebayo quoted Jordan saying, “He just said, ‘Congratulations.’ Very short and direct. If you know Mike, you know he doesn’t talk much.”

Even though the message was short, it meant everything for Bam as recognition from Jordan is so rare that only a handful of individuals of the NBA stars ever get the experience.

Well, Bam certainly deserved every bit of appreciation; his 83 points against the Wizards stand as the second most in a single game throughout NBA history, only surpassed by Wilt Chamberlain’s 100 points in 1962.

Speaking about his record, Adebayo expressed, “I didn't think it was going to be 83. But to have this moment is surreal, because like I said, man, to be able to do it at home, in front of my mom, in front of my people, in front of the home fans, this is a mark in history that will forever be remembered.”

Adebayo also broke the late Bryant’s record after two decades, which is another reason for this feat being special, but even in celebration, he remained humble and paid respect to the deceased Lakers legend.

Bam Adebayo Predicts How Kobe Bryant Would Have Reacted

While having a conversation on the Dan Patrick show, Bam Adebayo expressed that Kobe would have been thrilled to witness him break his record, “If it was the other way around, Kobe would’ve been like ‘I’m shooting for whatever I can get!’”

“If the dead could talk, I firmly believe he’d be like, ‘Congratulations, young fella. You did something I thought nobody could even reach for the next 40-50 years!”, the 28-year-old added.

Kobe Bryant set the record for the second-highest single-game scoring performance in 2006 against the Toronto Raptors with a stunning 81 points. The mark stood untouched for nearly two decades until Bam Adebayo finally surpassed it on March 10.

But do you think he will manage to break Chamberlain’s record in his career?
