James Harden Creates NBA History With His 17th Playoff Appearance

Apr 18, 2026, 4:39 PM CUT

Greatness is often measured by sudden peaks. Yet, there is a different type of history being recorded right now by James Harden.

Harden has reached the playoffs for an excellent streak spanning from his 2009–10 to this 2025–26 season.

The 17th consecutive playoff appearance became official when the Cleveland Cavaliers earned a playoff spot after defeating the Golden State Warriors.

He is the 4th player in NBA history to reach this mark. He joins Karl Malone and John Stockton, both of whom managed 19-season streaks, and Tony Parker, who appeared in 17 consecutive playoffs.

Harden has a 90–83 record in 173 playoff games and has the second-most playoff wins of any player without a ring. He is right behind Karl Malone’s 98 wins.

Harden was traded to the Cavaliers on February 7, 2026. His arrival led to an impressive 10–4 run for Cleveland, helping the franchise secure the 26th overall and 4th straight playoff spot.

He will make his postseason debut for the Cavaliers against the Toronto Raptors on April 18.

Harden’s path to a 17th consecutive postseason reflects a career of sustained production across five different franchises.

A Career Built on Consistency and Missing Just One Goal

The foundation for this streak started in Oklahoma City. From 2009 to 2012, Harden accepted a bench role for the Thunder. Winning the Sixth Man of the Year award. This era peaked early with a trip to the 2012 NBA Finals against the Miami Heat.

He then became a key player for the Rockets from 2012 to 2021. He won the NBA MVP award in 2018 and led the team to consecutive playoff runs.

His later career had a trade to the Brooklyn Nets in the 2020–21 season and then to the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2021–22 season. Harden’s recent stretch included 2 complete seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Harden is an MVP, a three-time scoring champion, an 11-time All-Star, and a member of the NBA 75th Anniversary Team. Despite these accolades, Harden is still searching for his first NBA championship.

Do you think James Harden will finally win his first-ever NBA championship this season?
