Four-time NBA champion LeBron James has identified exactly what makes defending New York Knicks superstar Jalen Brunson an absolute nightmare for opposing teams. Brunson has shown some spectacular performances over the last four years, which earned him praise from James.
With Brunson currently anchoring the Knicks in the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs, James used an episode of the Mind the Game podcast to break down the guard's mechanical advantages.
"Ninety or 95 percent of our league are righties," James explained. "And the lefties that are dynamic in our league, it’s sometimes just hard to kind of get a cadence of that. The Manu Ginóbilis, the James Hardens, and now the Jalen Brunsons."
James grouped Brunson alongside former MVP James Harden and four-time champion Manu Ginóbili, both of whom leveraged their left-handed attacks to manipulate defensive angles.
"Like it’s a different feel when a guy’s coming at you lefty, you know." He continued. "So, I think that plays a little bit into it. I don’t know if anybody’s ever said that. And I could be wrong, but I could also be right. I think being that dynamic gives the defender a little bit more of a headache."
Brunson's performance justifies James' claims, as he has been named in the NBA All-Star team for three consecutive years. Not only that, but he also lifted the Larry Bird Trophy as the MVP of the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Knicks are playing in the NBA Finals after a 27-year wait, and Brunson has been tremendous in the NBA postseason so far.
Jalen Brunson Continues To Impress In Postseason
Brunson has been in incredible form this postseason. He has averaged 26.9 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.1 rebounds per game so far.
While the Knicks lost Game 3 to the Spurs 115-111, putting the series at 2-1 in favor of the Spurs, Brunson showed tenacity in that game as well.
He scored 32 points, dished out five assists, and had five rebounds in the game.
He has scored a total of 82 points in these three games against the Spurs, while also racking up 13 assists and 13 rebounds for the Knicks.
But there has been one difficulty for the Knicks. Spurs' star player Victor Wembanyama has been a threat to the Knicks so far and was crucial in the Spurs' comeback win, scoring 32 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.
The Knicks will play the Spurs in Game 4 on Wednesday, June 10.
Will Brunson be able to lead the Nicks to their first-ever NBA title since 1999? Let us know in the comments.
