Kevin Durant already has his post-playing career in mind. The Houston Rockets star wants to remain involved with Team USA after retirement, with one particularly ambitious goal of becoming Team USA's General Manager.

But when fans heard Durant's plan, they were quick to point to his history with star-studded rosters and question whether he would be the right person to build Team USA's next superteam.

"Every day, I think about new things that I want to do. One of my main goals is to be the GM of Team USA for one of these Olympics one of these years," Durant said during an interview with the Boardroom last week.

Legion Hoops shared Durant's comments on X, prompting fans to weigh in on his Team USA GM ambitions. The post drew plenty of skeptical reactions from fans, many of whom questioned whether Durant would be suited for the role.

Becoming the General Manager of Team USA demands a lot. But Durant's playing career shows a winning mentality that could help the team.

That being said, Durant would have huge shoes to fill if he succeeds the current GM, Grant Hill. The seven-time NBA All-Star assembled "The Avengers" team that brought home the 2024 gold medal. 

In the Boardroom interview via YouTube, Durant made it clear that he wants to replicate what Hill did.

However, the fans retorted to his dream by bringing up his track record.

Kevin Durant’s leadership qualities have often been questioned. The GM role pivots on that, and fans feel that the three-time USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year might not be a good fit for it. 

Fans quickly turned the comment section of the Legion Hoops X post into a roast of Durant's GM aspirations.

“Keep dreaming, buddy. You can’t lead a franchise when you can’t even lead your own team and are always blaming everyone else,” wrote an X user.

Durant’s infamous history of conflicts with teammates and coaches, especially the 2018 incident with his Golden State Warriors teammate Draymond Green, has cemented him as a controversial figure. 

“Haha, he can't go 3 months without some sort of conflict with teammates, coaches, media, or the entire internet. That's a quality everyone looks for in management,” wrote another X user. 

Durant’s player drafts in the 2021 and 2022 NBA All-Star Games were scrutinized. The 37-year-old went for flashiness and perimeter-centric isolation scoring ability on both occasions. 

“Lmaoo roster finna have a bunch of 1-dimensional bucket getters with no defense or IQ,” commented an X user.

Fans have not forgotten Durant’s push for James Harden back in his Brooklyn Nets days. The team traded off center Jarrett Allen, and in the playoffs, it was rattled by injuries.

“KD as a GM would just pick the top 15 PPG scorers for Team USA and call it a day,” wrote an X user.

A similar scenario played out at the Phoenix Suns. Veteran point guard Chris Paul was traded away for three-time All-Star Bradley Beal, and Durant again was part of a flashy trio. 

However, the trio had no synergy and was only good on paper. 

“He ruined the nets and the suns. He good build a bronze level team,” wrote another X user. 

Despite being a spectacular player over the years, the Slim Reaper might not be the ideal fit for the GM role.
