LeBron James' Sixers Reunion Tour Continues as Caldwell-Pope Nears Arrival

Everyone is shocked as NBA player LeBron James revealed that he will play for the Philadelphia 76ers in his 24th NBA season. According to reports, another name could also join him on his new team: his old teammate from the Lakers, veteran 3-and-D specialist Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

Senior NBA insider for the NBA on Prime, Chris Haynes, has come up with more news regarding the 76ers after they signed James on a two-year, $8 million contract.

"Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Memphis Grizzlies are negotiating a buyout," Haynes wrote on July 24. "And the veteran 3-&-D specialist intends to team back up with LeBron James and sign with the Philadelphia 76ers, league sources tell me."

Haynes stated on X about the two-time NBA champion, with the Memphis Grizzlies looking for a buyout option to give away the veteran to the 76ers.

Caldwell-Pope won his second NBA title with the Denver Nuggets in 2023, playing the 3-and-D role in both his championship runs.

He was crucial during the 2020 championship run with James, making 2.1 three-pointers per game at 37.8 percent and supporting the defense, averaging 1.7 defensive rebounds and 1 steal in the playoffs.

He then went to Denver, further improving his stats, averaging 1.8 three-pointers with an accuracy of 38 percent, while also averaging 2.6 defensive rebounds, 1.3 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game in the playoffs.

Over his career in the NBA spanning 13 years, Caldwell-Pope has been averaging 11.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game and shooting 36.5% from beyond the arc.

While Haynes has reported on this potential reunion, James made the announcement, saying quite a few things amid his big reveal.

What all did LeBron James say while making his announcement

The 22-time All-Star has won four NBA titles with three different teams: the 2012 and 2013 titles with the Miami Heat, in 2016 with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and in 2020 with the Lakers.

James has posted about how he considered retiring, given his achievements and accolades.

"I thought I was done when the season ended. I wasn't ready to announce it, and I knew I needed some time to really decide, but I was pretty sure I played my last game," he wrote on X.

James made his decision after letting the Lakers know of his intention to leave before free agency.

"This is my last decision. I'm not going for money. I'm not going for family. I still want to sacrifice. I still want to work. I still want to grind. I still want to compete, to win and to have a chance at the feeling of winning another championship," James said.

James will now be playing alongside Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe in Philadelphia, a team set up to contend for the Eastern Conference.

If James really pulls off an NBA title with the 76ers, he'll be the first-ever NBA player to do so with four different teams, and Caldwell-Pope might be helpful in achieving this greatness if he arrives in Philadelphia.
