LeBron-Led 76ers’ Schedule Gives Them a Major Early-Season Advantage

The Philadelphia 76ers won't have to deal with the toughest part of their 2027 schedule right away. Their early slate keeps them away from the Western Conference, limits back-to-backs, and gives a new-look roster some valuable time to settle in.

That could be a solid advantage for a team built around LeBron James, especially with Philadelphia opening the season against mostly familiar Eastern Conference opponents.

“Fun facts about the 76ers schedule,” posted Witness King James, an X account, on August 14, 2026. “They don’t play a game against the West until Game 18 of the season… They have the least amount of back-to-backs. They have the max National TV games.”

Philadelphia has also undergone major roster changes, adding LeBron James on a two-year deal and acquiring Jaylen Brown.

That makes the lighter early schedule even more useful, as the new-look group will have time to figure out its roles before facing the Western Conference.

November 28 marks their first game against the West’s Houston Rockets. They won't make their first West Coast trip until Christmas, when they visit the Los Angeles Lakers. By then, the team will have already had weeks to establish its rotations and chemistry.

To make things even better, the NBA schedule makers have given the 76ers only 13 back-to-backs, a clear contrast to last season’s 16.

The schedule also puts Philadelphia in the spotlight, with 34 nationally televised games compared with 14 last season.

Can the Philadelphia 76ers take advantage of their favorable start?

Philadelphia still has plenty to figure out, though. The 76ers open against the defending champion New York Knicks, and The Athletic's Tony Jones believes the new roster could struggle early as players adjust to new roles and develop chemistry.

After all, it's still a newly put-together roster trying to gain momentum.

“For a team that will be playing together as a unit for the first time and figuring out roles, shots and on-court chemistry, a rough start seems entirely possible,” Tony Jones of The Athletic noted.

The schedule won't guarantee Philadelphia anything, but it does give the new-look 76ers a valuable window to find their footing.

If they can take advantage of that East-heavy opening, they could build some momentum before the tougher Western Conference stretch arrives.
