On April 25, the Orlando Magic went up 2-1 up over the Detroit Pistons with a 113-105 victory in Game 3 of the playoff series. Following the Pistons' defeat, Johnson expressed how the situation could get too dire for the team if they don't make changes to a key aspect of their game.

On April 26, Johnson posted an X update, stating, “The Detroit Pistons better get their swagger back on the defensive end, or else they are going to lose this series against the Orlando Magic.”

Johnson pointed out that Orlando has been far too comfortable offensively, exploiting gaps and dominating on breakdowns that just cannot keep going on in the playoffs.

His comments align with what has unfolded on the court. Orlando holds a 2-1 series lead after a 113-105 Game 3 win, where Detroit struggled to close out possessions and allowed key scoring runs late in the game.

The Pistons, even after having brilliance, have been inconsistent in maintaining defensive intensity across the four quarters. Johnson’s call isn’t about just effort but execution. The Pistons are capable, as seen in the Game 2 win, where they held Orlando to just 32.5% shooting.

Johnson’s message is both a critique and a motivation, an external push for a team that still has time to respond. But in the playoffs, fundamentals often decide outcomes.

The Pistons Face Mounting Pressure to Level Against Orlando Magic in Game 4 of the Series

The Detroit Pistons will step into Game 4 of the playoff series against the Magic on April 27. While it is a best-of-seven series, the Pistons are nearly in a must-win situation, but with their rivals in winning form.

Game 3 highlighted one of the side's primary concerns: inconsistency, especially during execution and late -game composure. The Pistons showed resilience by making a comeback, but failed to ride the momentum, losing 113-105 in the very next match.

However, despite the tough odds against the side, head coach J.B. Bickerstaff is still confident that his team can bounce back to have the last laugh.

Speaking to Hunter Patterson of The Athletic, Bickerstaff said, "That’s what’s most important. It’s understanding, for all of us, that what we did is good enough. Not overthinking and trying to become, because it’s the playoffs, wanting to do more or be different. … What the team has done is good enough. Being who you are is good enough. Overthinking the process just complicates things."
