“More of a Team Player”: Victor Wembanyama Drops Confession as Spurs Fall Behind Thunder

Victor Wembanyama admitted he must become a better team player after the San Antonio Spurs fell 2-1 against the Thunder. Despite scoring 26 points on Friday, Victor Wembanyama struggled to anchor a defense that allowed Oklahoma City to take control.

"I feel like I have trouble making my teammates better right now,” he said when a reporter asked him about the Thunder putting pressure on him.

“That’s where I should do better. My shooting splits aren't terrible. I need to be more of a team player," he added.

In the last two games, Wembanyama hasn’t looked as aggressive as he did in Game 1. On Friday, aside from 26 points, he had just 4 rebounds and 2 blocks, a concerning number for a player of his category.

Unlike the Thunder, the Spurs had a fully healthy roster coming into the game. However, De’Aaron Fox, who has been dealing with a high ankle injury, exited the game later, having re-aggravated the injury.

San Antonio has a tough road ahead, and the Spurs will have to bring their best game on Sunday, or they might end up going home sooner than expected.

Victor Wembanyama is not using inexperience as an excuse

They started the game on a 15-0 run, but with their young legs, the Spurs played an extremely fast game that didn’t seem sustainable for 48 minutes.

After the game, Wemby admitted that the lack of playoff experience might have hurt them.

"I feel like each and every one of us got to be better," Wembanyama said. "It's just that as a team, as an organization, there's a lot of new experiences. We're just going to have to find the answers. It's my first playoffs. It's the first playoffs for many of us.”

However, the DPOY has challenged his teammates for Game 4. “Of course, there were going to be hard trials. That's to be expected. But now, we're going to see what we're made of," he added.

The Spurs’ starting lineup didn’t disappoint. However, it was their bench that the Thunder was able to limit and take the game away from the hosts. They have to be better on both ends in Game 4 or else this series will be a quick wrap-up.
