NBA fans are reacting to Kawhi Leonard after the Clippers star said he did not know about the salary cap circumvention linked to his contract extension.  NBA Central shared a clip on X in which Shams Charania discussed Leonard’s reported lack of knowledge about the matter.

The NBA recently released the results of its investigation into the Clippers and Leonard. The investigation lasted for a few years and found several major rule violations by the team. 

According to ESPN’s report by NBA Insiders, the NBA looked into alleged arrangements involving endorsement deals connected to Leonard’s 2021 contract extension. 

The Clippers received a $30 million fine. Steve Ballmer, Gillian Zucker and Lawrence Frank also received suspensions. The team must also give up first-round picks from 2029 through 2033.

Leonard later spoke about the situation in an Instagram post. He said he entered his Clippers contract and the related agreements in good faith and had no knowledge of any intent on anyone’s part to circumvent the salary cap.

He also took responsibility for mistakes made by people close to him and said he wanted to move forward with a clean slate.

However, Leonard’s statement has not stopped the questions from fans. Many fans are still unsure about his explanation and have started questioning how much he knew about the situation.

NBA fans mock Kawhi Leonard’s salary cap circumvention claim 

Fans who replied to the same NBA Central’s X post mostly used sarcasm to question Leonard’s claim that he did not know about the financial arrangements linked to his contract.

They wasted no time ripping Kawhi Leonard, mocking his claim that he was unaware of the alleged salary cap circumvention.

One fan pointed to the large amount of money reportedly involved and joked that Leonard somehow did not notice money going into his own bank account.

“Millions of dollars deposited into his bank account without his knowledge, guys,” a fan wrote. 

The fan used sarcasm to suggest that Leonard would have noticed such a large amount of money.

Another fan found it hard to believe Leonard knew nothing about the extra money.

“So we’re supposed to believe Kawhi had NO idea where all this extra money was coming from….. Sure”, a fan wrote.

Some fans also joked that very wealthy athletes may not check their bank accounts often. 

“Bro, people that make over 100Ms do not actively check their account. Some don't check it at all ** they know the money is there,” a fan wrote. 

Another commenter questioned whether Leonard never asked about the reported $50 million connected to the situation.

“Never asked where he got an extra $50 million? Uh, ok,” a fan wrote. 

The fan sarcastically questioned how Leonard could miss such a large amount of money.

One of the strongest reactions simply rejected Leonard’s explanation.

“They really think people are this dumb to believe this bullshit,” a fan wrote. 

Overall, many fans did not accept Leonard’s claim that he did not know the alleged arrangements.

Instead, they continued to mock his explanation and question how he could remain unaware of such large amounts of money.

The NBA’s findings have kept the controversy alive, while Leonard’s denial has now become another major topic of discussion among fans.
