When LeBron James announced on June 30 that he would be leaving the Los Angeles Lakers, the Golden State Warriors were very much in the driving seat to land his signature.

However, as James is taking his time to decide where he would like to end his career, the Warriors are lagging behind compared to the Eastern Conference teams.

That is precisely what Golden State insider Anthony Slater recently claimed, revealing that while they have kept a spot in the roster open for James, they do not expect the 41-year-old to actually choose them.

"Since the beginning, they (Warriors) have not thought they are on top of the list. They basically said they have been given no sign or hint that it is going to happen. LeBron has at times been difficult to contact directly in the process." Slater said, per an X post by NBA on ESPN.

"Steph Curry has been in contact and Draymond has been vacationing for him. They are keeping one roster spot open, and they would love to have him, but they are not planning for it,” Slater added.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the leading horses for James' signature are the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and the Philadelphia 76ers.

Two different kinds of homecomings and a new challenge, all having the potential to compete for the NBA championship.

James is considering the possibility of teaming up with the likes of Donovan Mitchell, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Jaylen Brown to increase his chances of winning big next season.

And while the Warriors have their talent, as head coach Steve Kerr said, it is a "fading dynasty" to say the least.

While James is taking his own sweet time, his son, Lakers' Bronny James, believes the Warriors to be a unique destination for his dad.

Bronny recently collaborated with Twitch streamer Biggy22x. Initially, the streamer asked Bronny to give a brief motivational speech for the younger generation. Biggy22x then sneaked in a question about LeBron, asking whether he'll end up playing with the Golden State Warriors.

"Man, I don't know where he's going, bro," Bronny said while laughing. "But that would be crazy if he did."

While the Warriors may not be the strongest team out of the interested bunch, watching James and Curry together for a whole season would be a dream come true for all fans.

Especially after the 2024 Paris Olympics, when Steve Kerr was the coach for Team USA Basketball. James and Curry went on to create magic throughout the tournament, especially in the semifinals and finals. James also went on to win the MVP award.

As we are reaching almost a month after James' announcement, the decision will likely be made sooner rather than later.

After all, even NBA commissioner Adam Silver is waiting on James to create the league's schedule. That's how much impact his decision has on everyone.
