Shaq walked into FBI Headquarters on September 17 and left as an honorary Special Agent, with a warning for Charles Barkley. As FBI Director Kash Patel honored the Hall of Famer, he wasted no time in exerting his authority over longtime rival Barkley.
On September 17, 2026, O'Neal appeared alongside 265 law enforcement officials during the graduation ceremony for Session 299 of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. He immediately laid out a warning to Barkley.
“Congratulations. I am not here for this; I am here for you. … And if you see Charles Barkley, arrest him," Shaq said.

O’Neal and Barkley’s rivalry took a new turn, but with a tint of basketball humor this time, as shown on Legion Hoops' X post. The 90s saw the two produce intense flashes week in and week out.
In 1999, after a hard foul and a shove, Barkley famously threw a basketball directly at Shaq's head, causing a huge on-court scuffle between the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets.
However, after the two became analysts on the famous show ‘Inside the NBA’, they have transformed their tense rivalry into cheerful banter.
The four-time NBA champion just added another funny tale to their long list of exchanges.
Shaq’s FBI designation is honorary, but his roots with law enforcement run deeper.
A deeper connection to law enforcement
While the FBI honor is ceremonial, O’Neal’s connection to law enforcement isn’t new.
“One time, the police were messing with us, and I disrespected them,” Shaq said, per talkSPORT's Alex Worth. "My father grabbed me by my collar, tugged me back and said, ‘Don’t you ever disrespect these men."
In 2005, while playing with the Miami Heat, O'Neal was sworn in as a Miami Beach reserve police officer.
Shaq has also served as a reserve officer in Los Angeles, later joining the Doral Police Department in the same role in 2015.
