Veteran analyst Skip Bayless is clearly not a fan of how often Shai Gilgeous-Alexander hits the floor. Whether a foul is called or not, that style helps him draw free throws and boost his scoring efficiency.
The Thunder entered Game 7 against the San Antonio Spurs with the series deadlocked at 3-3. With Jalen Williams out injured, much of the pressure fell on SGA. However, his efforts did not yield the desired victory, much to Bayless' delight. Before Game 7, Skip Bayless made his feelings clear on his X feed.
"Now the NBA World is ready for The Alien to GET RID OF THE BORING THUNDER WITH THEIR FLOP ARTIST,"
Later that night, the Spurs defeated the Thunder 111-103 to reach the NBA Finals.
Even though Bayless called him a "flop artist," Gilgeous-Alexander came out aggressive. After scoring just 15 points in Game 6, the two-time MVP bounced back with 19 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, and 1 block in the first half alone.
Gilgeous-Alexander stayed productive throughout the game. He finished with 35 points, 9 assists, and 3 steals while playing 43 minutes.
Regardless, the criticism was not just about style of play. Gilgeous-Alexander's scoring average fell from 31.1 points per game to 24.3 during the conference finals, marking a historic drop for an MVP guard. He also took a total of 614 free throws in the 2025-26 regular season, making 540 of them, shooting at an 87.9%.
His efficiency also took a hit. He was shooting just 37.9% from the field in the series following his 15-point performance in Game 6.
With the win, the San Antonio Spurs advanced to the NBA Finals, where they will face the New York Knicks.
Interestingly, while Bayless got the result he wanted with a Spurs victory, he was probably less happy to see SGA outscore The Alien in Game 7.
Why Skip Bayless Turned on Victor Wembanyama
Victor Wembanyama finished Game 7 with 22 points and 7 rebounds while playing a career-high 42 minutes.
After the Spurs win, Wembanyama spoke emotionally at the post-game press conference.
“It's hard to put into words. It's almost like the meaning of my life."
Interestingly, while Bayless appeared to be backing Wembanyama and the Spurs in Game 7, that was not the case just one game earlier.
After San Antonio's 118-91 win in Game 6, Bayless criticized the Spurs. The 74-year-old wrote an emotionally charged post on X.
"These Spurs are a bunch of home front-running cheap-shotting fake tough guys led by Wembanyama who sent his goons after the Thunder when he got HIS a** kicked in OKC."
His comments came after many fans speculated that Wembanyama had encouraged Mason Plumlee and Bismack Biyombo to play more physically against Oklahoma City.
Bayless' frustration likely stemmed from what was at stake. The Thunder entered Game 6 with a 3-2 series lead and a chance to advance. Instead, the Spurs delivered one of their best performances of the series, and Wembanyama bounced back after a difficult Game 5.
Do you agree with Skip Bayless calling Shai Gilgeous-Alexander a "flop artist," or is he simply great at drawing contact? Let us know in the comments.
