Steph Curry Recalls the Practice Matchup That Left Him Searching for Answers

Steph Curry has spent the better part of two decades being measured against the greatest point guards in NBA history. Four championships, two MVP awards, and a scoring record that rewrote the record books, yet one of his sharpest lessons came from a player most fans barely remember.

During an appearance on the Draymond Green Show last year, Stephen Curry discussed the one player that made his second year in the NBA tough and uncomfortable, Acie Law, who was a journeyman guard that spent only one season with Curry in Golden State in the 2010-11 season.

"My second year in the league, Acie Law was the point guard in practice that I was going up against, and he was nice. He had such a unique game that I could never figure out," Curry said on The Draymond Green Show.

Law joined Golden State after stints with the Memphis Grizzlies, and in his half-season with the Warriors, Law played in 40 games and had per game averages of 5.1 points, 1.7 assists, and 1.3 rebounds in 15.8 minutes of play, shooting 46.7% FG.

In the 2009 draft, Memphis picked Curry at number 7, and he played in all 74 games that season. While he had an impressive season, head coach Keith Smart consistently put Law in during the clutch instead of his own starting player.

Curry did not walk away from that bitter period. Reflecting on it years later on the same show, he credited Law directly.

"To his credit, he was a great vet, and he was helping me throughout that process," Curry said on The Draymond Green Show.

That mindset carried him further than anyone watching him ride the bench in 2010 could have imagined. Curry went on to win four titles, earn two MVP awards, and rewrite the record books as the NBA's all-time three-point leader.

That same readiness to take on the discomforts of the moment now shapes the most important decision of Curry’s life. This decision also involves a veteran who is much more accomplished than Acie Law.

LeBron James and the Stephen Curry-Led Warriors' All-In Gamble

Golden State is after LeBron James, and it’s changing the league's perception of the Warriors’ offseason. The news is out that Curry is going to make a personal pitch to LeBron before the free agency period opens. It shows the team is treating this very seriously.

At 41 years old, LeBron averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists for the regular season, and those numbers went up to 23.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 7.3 assists in the playoffs. The numbers don't lie, and the interest is definitely there.

The numbers are clear, and they force a difficult question: Is a 2026 playoff-less roster led by a 41-year-old LeBron and a 38-year-old Curry a title-worthy team or just a good story trying to chase one? Golden State is down to find out.

Comment down, do you think the Warriors can pull this off, or is the window already closed?
