Stephen Curry Gets Emotional After Leading Warriors in Must-Win Victory

Apr 16, 2026, 3:11 PM CUT

Golden State’s season lived to see another day on Wednesday. Stephen Curry overcame a grueling mid-season injury to stun the Clippers at the Intuit Dome.

It has been a tough season for Curry and the Warriors, to say the least. The four-time NBA champion’s stellar season took an abrupt pause for two months, and he lost his running mate, Jimmy Butler, to a season-ending injury.

While the Dubs still have one more hill to climb, it was an emotional win for the Warriors superstar nonetheless.

“I know I was only out for two months, but it was a difficult two months because I didn’t know on a day-to-day how I was going to feel,” an emotional Curry told Allie Clifton.

“I thought I was going to be out 4 to 8 months… I just love to play basketball. When I‘m out here and get to do what I am here to do, I’m blessed.”

Curry started slow, but got the Warriors back in the game after halftime. He scored 27 of his 35 points in the last two periods.

The Clippers led the game for the most part, but the Dubs made a big comeback behind Al Horford’s three consecutive 3-pointers.

With the game tied at 117, Curry made a go-ahead 3-point shot with over 50 seconds remaining to give the Warriors a lead.

As much as it was another beauty from Curry, it was proof that championship experience matters to survive these big moments, and the Warriors showed that at Intuit Dome on Wednesday.

Stephen Curry showers praise on his Warriors teammates

This victory was far from a one-man show. The victory required a collective effort from the entire rotation.

Before halftime, with Curry still cold from the field, Kristaps Porzingis, Gui Santos, and Brandin Podziemski all held the fort against the Clippers’ attack.

Every time the Clippers took a big lead, the Dubs had comeback stretches to keep themselves afloat and eventually prepare for Curry’s assault.

“You look at the guys on the floor down the stretch, I mean, everyone contributed,” Curry said after the game.

"They all have shown what they can do over the course of the regular season. And when the lights are the brightest, they showed up.”

One of the heroes of the night was Draymond Green, who took the assignment of defending Kawhi Leonard in the fourth quarter.

The 2017 Defensive Player of the Year made two big steals on Leonard in the clutch time to seal the game.

“Draymond, defense on Kawhi all night. Two big steals,” Curry said about Green.

The Dubs will now face the Phoenix Suns in the second Play-In Tournament game to book their place in the playoffs.
