Rich Paul Shares How He Convinced LeBron James to Go Back to Cavs
Some of the greatest basketball players in the NBA have one theme in common. The majority of them did not leave with their head held high, and Charlie Villanueva has warned James not to go down that path.
After spending eight years with the Los Angeles Lakers, James has finally decided to end his career with a new team, and Villanueva urges the four-time NBA champion not to commit the same mistakes as the legends of the past.
“Think about all of the greats, Michael Jordan ended at Washington, that was disgusting, no disrespect, that was nasty, right? You think about f–king all the greats, Shaq great, most dominant ever goes to the Boston Celtics, that was nasty, fam,” Villanueva said.
“So if you think about all these f****** greats and where they ended. Charles Barkley, Hakeem Olajuwon? Toronto Raptors. Think about that? That’s nasty, fam." He added.
While James is 41, his performances certainly do not look like that. In year 23, James averaged 20.9 points per game over the regular season, carrying his team to the playoffs alongside Luka Doncic.
With the Slovenian injured, it was all up to James again, and he showed up, knocking out the Houston Rockets and elevating his scoring average to a team-high 23.3 points per game by the time they matched up with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The big question arises again: where does James go from here? For Villanueva, the answer is pretty easy.
Charlie Villanueva Believes Homecoming is the Only Option
With the numbers James has been putting up, Villanueva believes James can help any team contending for the championship, and the Cleveland Cavaliers once again look like the perfect option.
Not only alongside Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley, James can get a genuine opportunity to chase his fifth NBA championship, but by returning to the franchise that drafted him, fans in Cleveland can give him the emotional farewell a legend of his stature deserves.
“So LeBron James in Minnesota no disrespect, that’s nasty, fam. Denver? That’s nasty. Philly? Disgusting,” Villanueva added. “What’s the one team that makes sense? Cleveland.”
Reports suggest that James wants to go to a franchise where he can end his career happily and on his own terms.
The Golden State Warriors were leading the pack to sign him earlier on, but now the emerging favorites are the Cavs alongside the Miami Heat and the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Cavs might be James' best option, as alongside his rich history with the franchise, they also reached the Eastern Conference Finals last season, giving James the best of both worlds and letting him chase his fifth ring in the place where it all started.
So, where would you like to see LeBron James end his career? Let us know in the comments.
