This four-time NBA champion might consider Miami Heat as his next landing spot

Reports suggest that the Mavs are looking to part ways with Klay Thompson during this offseason. Amid the sharpshooter's expected departure, the Miami Heat have emerged as one of his top landing spots.

According to Christian Clark of The Athletic, the Mavs have already been trying to find a suitable trade option for Thompson. However, they haven't found an ideal scenario to pull the trigger on.

"The Miami Heat are another team frequently mentioned in NBA circles as a potential landing spot for the future Hall of Famer [Klay Thompson]," Clark wrote on Monday, Aug. 3.

The Heat were the best-scoring team in the East last year. With the addition of Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Heat won't need him to take up scoring responsibility. Thompson can play as a catch-and-shoot player.

Thompson is in the last year of his contract, which he signed in 2024. He is owed $17 million next season and becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2027.

But when Miami is interested in acquiring him, The Athletic's reporter claimed that Thompson's heart is leaning towards another team.

Reporter claims Klay Thompson would love to play in this city

With Thompson's trade picking up the heat, Clark claimed that there was one place the four-time NBA champion would be comfortable signing: in Los Angeles.

"My understanding is that Thompson would welcome a return to Los Angeles, where he spent part of his childhood and still owns a home," Clark added in the same The Athletic piece.

Thompson spent his childhood in LA as his father, Mychal Thompson, played four years with the Lakers before retirement. Klay still owns a home in LA.

If it is the city that Thompson is looking for, he can sign either with the Clippers or the Lakers. However, signing with the Lakers would not only keep him close to home, but give him a chance for a better season.

Shooters playing alongside Luka Doncic have always succeeded. Thompson will find success too.

In two seasons with the Mavs, Thompson has averaged 12.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 141 games. He has shot just 40.3% from the field.

Thompson is still one of the best outside shooters in the league. Even struggling to score with Dallas, he has converted 38.7% of his shots from beyond the arc.
