"Throw Him Out": Kendrick Perkins Sounds Off on Wemby’s ‘Intentional’ Flagrant 2 Foul on Naz Reid

The fate of Game 4 between the San Antonio Spurs and the Minnesota Timberwolves took its first big turn when Victor Wembanyama was slapped with his first career ejection after a Flagrant 2 foul on Naz Reid. After the game, Kendrick Perkins was blunt on Wemby's ejection.

In the early minutes of the second quarter, Wembanyama grabbed a rebound over Reid and Jaden McDaniels. Jaden then held the Spurs big man’s right hand. The Spurs star seemed frustrated and swung his right hand across Reid’s chin while grabbing onto the ball. According to Perkins, it was a dangerous and intentional foul by Wembanyama.

“It was the right call by the officials,” Perkins said, sounding off on Wemby during an interview with ESPN. “You had to throw him out because we all saw that it was intentional. He looked at him, stared him down, and delivered a blow, and he could have seriously hurt Naz Reid in that moment.

This Timberwolves vs. Spurs series has been a very physical one, and the competition has met the hype of the playoffs. The reaction out of the Spurs star was in frustration, and that’s where Perkins urged the Frenchman to be careful.

“I understand the game plan…. is to go out there and get physical with Wemby and try to frustrate him, but he has to keep his composure.”

Trouble hasn’t ended for Wembanyama and the Spurs. A big part of their fate will be decided on Monday when the NBA makes its final decision on Wembanyama’s suspension.

Kendrick Perkins' take on Victor Wembanyama's potential suspension

The NBA will give its verdict on Monday about Wembanyama’s potential suspension.

The league usually looks at the seriousness of the Flagrant 2 foul. Then, they also review the history of unsportsmanlike actions of the player before making a decision.

However, the Spurs have a silver lining with Wemby’s clean history.

The Spurs are still a very deep team without their star player. However, Kendrick Perkins believes that Wembanyama’s suspension could swing the series in Minnesota’s favor.

“If he's suspended for Game 5, this may change the whole dynamic of this series,” Perkins said. "Right now, the Timberwolves should feel good heading back to San Antonio tied 2-2."

Along with that, Perkins feels, if the NBA's decision goes against Wembanyama, he will regret this moment for the rest of his NBA career.

“But again, if Wimby is suspended for Game 5, and then Minnesota goes in there and gets the win, this is going to be one of those moments that Wimby is going to look back and have all types of regrets. Because I truly believe…Wemby in that lineup, they really could go win the championship.”

As both teams prepare for the all-important Game 5 on Tuesday, everything will depend on the NBA's decision.
