There’s no Stephen Curry without the Golden State Warriors, and vice versa. After the two-time NBA MVP became extension-eligible, the Warriors gave Curry full control over contract talks.
As Curry enters his 18th season on a $62.6 million expiring deal, the Warriors have made it clear they do not want their star man to leave. In fact, the Dubs point guard can decide before June 29, 2027.
‘The deal and the contract stuff will happen at the right time, and we’re not letting it be a distraction from our preparation for the season,’ Curry said.

Per ESPN’s Anthony Slater, as reported by HITC's Aryan Chadha, the Dubs have given their marquee man options in the form of a two-year maximum, a one-year deal, a discounted contract, or simply waiting to see how the roster develops.
Because of the Over-38 rule, Curry is limited to a maximum two-year extension, capped at around $136.7 million. It will keep him in San Francisco till the 2028-29 season. In fact, Curry also wants to stay longer than that.
“There’s no question I want to be here the rest of my career, and I’m pretty sure that’s going to happen,” Curry said to NBC Sports Bay Area earlier.
The Warriors built their franchise around Curry, but recurring injury issues have undermined their title hopes.

While promoting his Li-Ning partnership in China, Curry was spotted walking with a limp.
“There’s at least some lingering concern about the knee,” Warriors insider Monte Poole said, as reported by Bleacher Report's Zach Bachar. “It can be managed, but it has to be managed, and that’s a new thing for Steph.”
Curry appeared in only 43 games during the 2025-26 season due to patellofemoral pain syndrome in his right knee.
In China, he was seen wearing a knee sleeve, which has again raised concerns ahead of the new season.
The Warriors will have a clearer picture of Curry's availability once training camp begins Sept. 29.
