Watch: Shaquille O'Neal Goes Larger Than Life in His Latest DJ Stint

Apr 8, 2026, 9:33 PM CUT

A stage was set, and the crowd was waiting for something unforgettable. A familiar face stepped into an entirely different spotlight and commanded the night in a new avatar.

Performing under his popular DJ Diesel persona, Shaquille 'O'Neal made his debut at the Sphere in Las Vegas during the first weekend of April as the special guest opener for Illenium’s “Odyssey” residency finale.

He delivered a bass-driven set that brought his signature mosh-pit energy to the floor.

Despite his veteran status as a performer, this marvelous night left him deeply moved. “I’ve done a lot of things in my life, and it’s hard for me to get nervous, but this is one of the few times I got on stage and was actually nervous,” he shared online.

He compared the intense atmosphere to a high-stakes basketball matchup, saying it "really felt like a Game 7," and thanked Illenium for making his dreams come true.

Shaq saved his Las Vegas Sphere debut for Illenium's "Odyssey" finale weekend. He joined a lineup of other hitters like Slander and Tape B for the run of shows. His journey to the main stage has taken him decades.

How the NBA Legend Built His DJ Career

Way back in the 1980s, he saw Terminator X perform at a Public Enemy concert, and that exact moment, he decided he wanted to do the same. He was hustling as a DJ even before he made his NBA debut.

In 2010, he rebranded himself as DJ Diesel. Instead of playing in typical VIP nightclubs, he prefers the stages of music festivals. For him, it is never about the money!

Shaq has crushed sets at events like Tomorrowland, Lollapalooza, and Lost Lands. In early 2026, he played huge Super Bowl parties and major gigs in Mexico. He even runs his own events like Shaq’s Fun House and the Bass All-Stars Festival.

The big guy also released a platinum rap album back in the 1990s and later won an Emmy for his funny sports broadcasting.

His debut at the Sphere proves that his music career is the result of hard work and pure passion. Would you go to one of his shows? Let us know in the comments.
