The future of Stephen Curry is a topic that keeps everyone guessing every single day. A resurfaced video gave everyone a look inside his own mind about when he might step away from the court.
This video is from an interview on July 25, 2025, during an episode of the 360 With Speedy show. The resurfaced clip gained attention online thanks to a post from X user Fibonacci69.
During the interview, Curry explained his approach to the coming years with a specific strategy. “I'm kind of just taking it in two-year chunks, just to know like you have to give yourself something and some motivation to kind of go after.” He then went into how he wants his final days in the league to look.
“I just want to be in a position where I've accomplished, or I've put myself in a position where I can say, 'I've done everything I can to, you know, get everything out of this game.' Hopefully, I have my health and the choice to say that I'm good, hanging it up. I'm nowhere close to that, though.”
Curry remains focused on health and agency as he nears the end of his career. Curry clearly told the host that he is “nowhere close” to hanging up his jersey for good.
The Warriors faced elimination when they lost to the Phoenix Suns by a score of 111 to 96 during their win-or-go-home matchup on Friday night.
Curry maintained an average of 26.6 points and 4.7 assists per game throughout this season.
He shared very similar thoughts in a February 16, 2026, interview with People magazine, and again after a game on April 17, 2026. He believes that retirement is something that will “declare itself” when the time is right, rather than forcing a deadline.
His current contract and consistent scoring output suggest he remains a high-level contributor.
Why The Golden State Star Stephen Curry Is Not Leaving Soon
His performance justifies his decision to keep playing. During the 2025-26 season, he averaged 26.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per night. He shot 46.8% from the field and 92.3% from the free-throw line.
He scored 190 three-pointers in just 43 games played. Even at age 38, he remains one of the best scorers in the league.
He signed a one-year veteran extension in 2024 that secures him 62.6 million dollars through the 2026-27 season. He has also been open to future extension talks this upcoming summer, confirming he is “for sure” interested.
On January 30, 2026, against the Detroit Pistons, he developed right-knee patellofemoral pain syndrome, known as "runner's knee."
This led to a 27-game absence. With an inconsistent year for Golden State and a play-in exit against the Phoenix Suns, where he scored 17 points.
The team struggled without him on the floor. When he finally made his return on April 5, 2026, against the Houston Rockets, he dropped 29 points on 11-of-21 shooting in just 25 minutes.
